Welcome to Hazel Bank

Hazel Bank Country House is fully licensed and has a bar, restaurant, and lounge. The house itself contains 8 individually designed luxury en-suite bedrooms, with a one bedroomed self catering cottage located in the grounds.

The house is surrounded by 4 acres of beautiful gardens, its own woodland with a pretty little stream, and views overlooking some of England's highest mountains, in an elevated stunning and peaceful setting in the picturesque Borrowdale Valley.

Our elegantly refurbished Dray restaurant has views overlooking the rear garden where you can see red squirrels and the wildlife that Hazel Bank's guests come back year after year to enjoy.

Hazel Bank Country House was built between 1840 and 1850 for Thomas Simpson and his family on their return from living in the United States of America. This Victorian house was built with traditional Lakeland stone and fortunately has undergone very few changes since. Sir Hugh Walpole, the famous author, was a frequent visitor and used the setting in his Rogue Herries Chronicles.

There are plenty of walks which can be started from the bottom of the garden which is ideal if you would like to leave your car at the house.
